Summary
Melissa was admitted to practice in 2014 following successful completion of the Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Honours) from the University of London. While at Hugh Wooding Law School, Melissa participated in Criminal and Civil moots, including the Hamel-Smith Appellate Mooting Competition. Melissa also took part in the Criminal and General Law Clinics where she gained invaluable experience and she undertook her in-service training at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions where she gained knowledge and experience in criminal law.
Prior to joining Trinity Chambers, Melissa was attached to another law chambers where she gained valuable experience various areas of law, including, criminal law, family law and civil law. Since being admitted to the Bar in Trinidad and Tobago, Melissa has litigated numerous high profile and complex matters at the High Court, Court of Appeal, Magistrates Court, Children’s Court and Family Court.
Prior to entering the law, Melissa worked at one of the leading financial institutions in Trinidad and Tobago where she gained valuable experience in banking. Melissa currently serves as a member of the Licensing Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago (ICATT) and is also currently pursuing her Master of Laws Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law at the University of the West Indies.
